One of many wonderful reasons that people love to cloth diaper is the reduction in skin irritation and diaper rash. 100% cotton is the softest thing for a baby’s bum and there are no chemicals or unnatural products in the diapers! We at Green Diaper Babies believe that this is the safest option for babies. Our parents love cloth because they rarely deal with red bums and unhappy babies.
But, there are times to use diaper creams and we know they can be helpful in many instances, so here are some resources for you.
“UNFRIENDLY” CLOTH DIAPER RASH CREAMS
Certain ingredients and therefore rash creams are considered “unsafe” for cloth diapers because they can stain and leave a residue on the diapers which comprises the absorbing capabilities of the diaper. Additionally, this build up can lead to bacteria growth if diapers aren’t properly washed. This is why we ask customers to avoid these products, although our strong washers can sanitize even the toughest stains!
AVOID products that have these as the main ingredients:
- Fish Oil
- Zinc Oxide
- Calamine
- Paraffin
- Petroleum Jelly
- Mineral Oil (greasy)

But sometimes these rash creams are the only thing that seem to tackle the rash or your pediatrician recommended a particular brand for baby’s needs. Thankfully there are ways around it! One option is to switch to disposables until baby’s rash clears up (with our services this is an easy swap!). Another option is to layer flushable liners in the diaper while using the cream to prevent it from staining.
“FRIENDLY” CLOTH DIAPER RASH CREAMS
